IWF Thanksgiving Thunder Weekend
Ok. I think I'm kinda hooked on IWF! For the second time, I visited one of their shows and was nicely surprised. It wasn't predictable and a little different from the last. Maybe it was because I sat in a different section that gave me a different view but whatever it was, I had another great time. The weekend roster (listed after the photos) was a mix of newbies and diva wrestlers (no photos of them 'cause they weren't wrestling the night I attended) anywhoooo....
I'm not going to give a play-by-play recount of what happened 'cause I'm a blogger not a sports reporter. So I'm just going to give some random thoughts.
The one thing that really moves me is the fan interaction. One of the practices of proprietor Kevin Knight is to invite a child inside the ring, particularly if he/she is celebrating a birthday, to hop up on the ring post and pose while the audience cheers. I ... LOVE ... THAT!! Watching their faces twist with delightful grins as their hearts pound as they're lifted in the air with raised arms is thrilling. You can see on their faces that they can feel what the big boys feel inside of that combat ring.
I enjoy watching the children get into the whole show. Talking more trash then a little bit cheering on their favorites to win!! What a wonderful way to get them out of the house and away from the video games. It's also a terrific way for them to see this 'controlled' action packed sport in a safe manner.
One other side note: There's a particular wrestler that floored me. His name is HUSH. Ok, right, I didn't know Hush meant that he couldn't speak. My thought was that he didn't talk with his mouth but with his ring work. I am speechless (seriously no pun intended) but the fact that a 'challenged' individual can get his wrestling on absolutely AMAZES me. Big UPS to Hush and the IWF organization for not discriminating against anyone!!
