Walking in Ministry
Step One: Look to See
What’s In Your Hands
My participation as a member & leader of our church drama
ministry has blessed me with invaluable experience. Throughout my tenor, I’ve
grown incredibly. A number of factors made up the total sum. Some fantastic and
some not so fantastic but all worked together in building who I was/am and
where I fit it. Before I became a member of the current church, I was a member
of another and what I discovered there placed me in ministries that carried over to
the present.
How did I find where I belonged? I found what was in my
hands first. God asked Moses “what’s in your hands?” It was his staff and God
used it to deliver a nation out of bondage. So I took a look into mine own
hands and found:
Ü
Writing
Ü
A theatre background
Ü
The ability to blend in any circle (I’ll explain
later).
Where there was an opportunity, I simply tried my hand at
something. I may not know how to sing but wait…Oh you need a church bulletin? I
can write. Let me try. Oh you want a dramatic piece written and performed? Ok I
can write something for any occasion. Let me try.
This is how I felt my way around in ministry. One step led
to another. It wasn’t easy – at times it still isn’t – but what comes natural
to people should lead them to a place to exercise their gifts. Before you know
it, God will place you where He needs YOUR specific gift to work for His glory.
If you love to cook and can (because there IS a difference),
there’s always a need to feed the hungry. We all love to eat a meal full of
love (and you CAN taste the difference). Perhaps your spirit of hospitality
could make that lonely introvert feel right at home. So on and so forth!
The smallest things can be
make the biggest difference in a person’s live. Btw...if you can't cook, you can always take a lesson or two. I'll talk about education in Step Two.
Sidebar: the ability to blend in any circle was an
unexpected gift. No matter what group of people (by age, race or whatever),
somehow I can fit in (so far J ).
So…what’s in YOUR hands??
