The Business of Business

QUESTION: How can a business be successful if 1.) you don't have or always out of product 2.) you're never open or open hella late and 3.) you have the personality of a dead lamp?

I'm all about supporting your neighborhood businesses, however, it's getting quite hard to do that when the above elements are in full effect. I recently went to a neighborhood store and was taken aback. I wanted a sandwich for lunch. I've had them there before and they were very good. But this day changed my mind quickly about going back.

Check it...In the refrigerated encasement there sat side-by-side the ending of what was turkey and ham meats with a little bit of yellow cheese sitting betwix them. There was no lettuce. No tomatoes. Not a damn thing else. Hmmmmm ok. Hesitantly...'I'll have a ham sandwich with the cheese and some mustard.' I ask. He goes for the ham and upon pulling it out, he discovered that it was NO GOOD - and shows it to me! Why the F would you not CHECK your meat before you open up the damn store???? I was aghast and not sure if I should have left at that moment. But nooooo I wanted to support my people.

Ok...'I'll have the turkey' (my voice crackled). I prayed all the way back to work that the sandwich would be ok to eat. Thank God it was. I shuddered at the thought that they could do business that way. Not to mentioned that the place itself was creepy because it needs help...old fixtures with the old store smells (not nasty but old) to go along with it. The only thing that's abundant in the store are lottery tickets and cigarettes. SMH. I don't know what to say.

The above is just a sample story. The Lord will make room for ALL of our gifts. I shouldn't have to feel funny when I meet someone else with the like-minded gifts. I'm not trying to out do you, or take your spot or anything like that. Why can't we network and go forward...together?

We have to do better planning and management no matter what the business is. Visual impressions go a long way and if we think mediocre is satisfactory, then we're phucked! We also can't think that we don't have to pay one another for the services that we render. You can't expect something for nothing but then go pay - handsomely - for the same service to somebody else. That's not fair!!

Can we at least TRY to be self sufficient, supportive and on time for a change? And while we're at it, can we smile at each other? Say hello/good morning/good evening? Not twist up our lips at the sight of our OWN people? No wonder the world thinks very little of us... we think little of ourselves. SMH
